They also showed me through their actions that the best thing a UCI student can do is help another UCI student. Advice to the Business Administration majors: Reach out to the older students, alumni, and anyone else in your network. The more you know the better off you will be in the long run. Major: Business Administration major with a specialization in Marketing. Career/Plans after graduation: I plan to work in the marketing or brand management department for a large multinational organization. Campus Involvements: Pi Kappa Alpha - External Vice President Favorite hobby/past-time: Playing water polo, Watching "First Take" on ESPN Describe how some of your on-campus commitments have contributed to your professional or personal success: Other than allowing me to meet some of my best friends at UCI, I have learned much about myself through my on-campus commitments. My role as the external vice president of Pi Kappa Alpha helped me understand how to manage people of many different backgrounds, how to effectively lead others, and how to be an effective communicator. Other than the leadership skills I acquired, one of the most important lessons I learned was having the courage to admit failure and then learn from it. Advice to the Business Administration majors: Never be afraid to make mistakes. Due to the opportunity to grow and learn from the failure you encounter, a mistake will only remain to be a mistake if you do not learn from it. This quarter, one of my professors, Bill Morris, explained the importance of making mistakes best by saying, "To walk through the door of success, one must first walk through the door of failure." Thus, don't be scared to fail, rather embrace failure because with every mistake comes an opportunity for growth. Sometimes one's best successes could come at the heels of failure. |
